Highland Gathering at Celtic Park
One of the major Scottish attractions of the festival of Britain will be the Glasgow Festival Highland Gathering to be held at Celtic Park on May 19th 1951. This is the third annual event of the Glasgow Highland Gathering Association.
In order to give the games an international flavour for festival visitors, invitations are being sent to many of the leading athletes from the south, the dominions and the continent. The international stars will compete in the field, track and cycling events.Tossing the caber, throwing the hammer and wrestling events will be organised on an ambitious scale. The pipe band contest and the highland dancing will again be stirring spectacles, not easily forgotten by either Scot or visitor.Apart from the eighteen gold and silver trophies which are competed for annually, there will be special silver Festival Quaichs to be won outright. These will be presented by Glasgow Corporation.
